Spyvalve is a biological early-warning system that transforms bivalves—mussels, oysters, clams, and scallops—into living environmental sensors. As natural filter feeders, bivalves continuously interact with their surrounding water. When conditions are healthy, shells remain open for feeding and respiration; when stressed, they rapidly close or reject particles to protect themselves.

Spyvalve captures these natural responses using small, non-invasive sensors attached to shells. Shell opening and closing behaviour is monitored continuously, allowing the system to identify emerging environmental stress or pollution events—often before conventional monitoring systems detect a problem.
